Chicago Jet Group Delivers 2nd Falcon 900B Universal Avionics InSight™ Flight Deck Upgrade

Offers Two-Phase Installation

SUGAR GROVE, IL – Chicago Jet Group (CJG) delivered the second Dassault Falcon 900B Universal InSight Flight Deck upgrade. This second Falcon 900B flight deck upgrade was delivered on-budget, a day early from the promised forecasted downtime, and squawk free. The Chicago Jet Group FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for Universal Avionics’ (UA) InSight Flight Deck Upgrade was utilized, once again establishing the engineering reliability of the STC package and proving the experience of the Chicago Jet Group engineering, installation, and certification teams. From aircraft arrival to departure, flight deck upgrade  downtime is approximately 12 weeks.

CJG’s unique STC solutions for the Falcon 900B Flight Deck Upgrade are designed to allow operators to choose from a Phase One or Phase Two Package. Phase One replaces the NZ-2000 FMS by adding dual UA UNS-1Fw SBAS-FMSs including LP and LPV approach capabilities, a CVR-120A Cockpit Voice Recorder, and UniLink™ UL-801 Communications Management Unit. This solution offers capabilities for FANS 1/A+ CPDLC, European ATN B1, and Push-to-Load required by the FAA for Domestic US CPDLC,  departure, and en-route clearances. This FANS Over Iridium (FOI) design utilizes the Latitude Technologies DL150 Iridium transceiver.

In Phase Two, the InSight Integrated Flight Deck Solution replaces the legacy EDZ-800 EFIS System with four UA InSight EFI-1040 Displays, dual Touch EFIS Control Display Units (ECDU), dual Alpha Numeric Keyboards (ANK), and the Mid-Continent SAM® MD-302 Standby Attitude Module, for a weight savings of more than 250 pounds. CJG’s STC options include upgraded dual or triple integrated PS Egnineering PAC45L audio control panels system, Latitude Technologies Iridium-based SkyNode S200 Safety Voice SATCOM for the cockpit, and Aircraft Lighting International (ALI) enhanced adjustable LED cockpit lighting for the overhead panel, glareshield instrument panel flood lights, along with replacement LED lamps for the cockpit dome lights and reading lights.

CJG’s two-phase installation offers Falcon 900B owner/operators flexibility in budget and downtime coordination. The most comprehensive installation provides both Phase One and Phase Two during a single downtime event.

“The InSight Display System reinforces the Falcon 900B capability as a NextGen world-class aircraft, adding functionality and assuring increased airframe value” said Mike Mitera, Chicago Jet Group President. “Pilots, owners, and operators are delighted with immediate results in safety of flight, increased aircraft value, lower operating cost, and increased dispatch reliability of the Universal Avionics equipment over the original OEM cockpit design. The sustainable technology provides long-term reliability by reducing risk, and most importantly, is available today.”

As a testament to Chicago Jet Group team capabilities, our CJG team also installed a 43″ 4K LED TV, two 22″ TV’s, Dolby Cinema Processor CP950 which is the exact central processor  used in newer IMAX theaters , 21 power outlets with USB, , LED cabin lights, all new CMS system by DPI, lead acid battery upgrade, Gogo L5 Avance WiFi, Weather radar update to WU-880, Mid-continent CH-93 digital clocks, a full cabin refurbishment, and maintenance.

Future projects include RNP-AR approach capability and working with the newly established Universal Avionics Systems Integration Team, expanding the flight deck from four to five InSight displays for full engine instumentaion.

More About the InSight Display System

The InSight flight deck features unprecented situational awareness thanks to a 2nd generation SVS and interactive digital maps, embedded charting with high-resolution airport maps, advanced radio control with embedded radio tuning, and more. InSight is complemented with the latest in Human Machine Interface (HMI) design including touch control interactions with the flight plan, etc., for reduced crew workload. Its benefits extend beyond the flight crew by providing unparalleled remote diagnostic capability to increase mission availability. The 4-display InSight solution is the building block in preparing the Falcon 900B for other NextGen systems such as UA’s SkyLens™ Head-Wearable Display, Interactive SVS (i-SVS).
